How do Muslims living in Britain see Britain?

There are two perspectives on Modern Britain:

"Nobody is above the law (except for head of state...)"
That is the notion on paper, which one would expect. Something one notices even in states that are dictatorial, authoritarian and autocratic.
The real test is practice - and that raises many doubts - just take recent examples of the banking crisis/scandals and how the entire industry got away with it, the MP expense scandal and how the vast majority implicated got away, or the Milly Dowler journalist scandal and how most journalists walked away...
Two tier justice? I think so.

"the concept of universal benefit (now means tested)"
Here we'd have to look at why "welfare" was introduced as that determines the nature of this policy - it's not good enough that the policy looks to be benevolent, the question is, is it?
Since the 17th century the British elite have hardly given a damn about their people - remember how they suffered in the Victoria era? What changed it all was the shock of the 1917 Russian revolution and that workers might unite and kick them out... Welfare and much of what followed was imho little more than appeasement... Being reversed at every opportunity if you notice post 1989 when communism collapsed and the threat died.

"public accountability of politicians and public servants"
Whilst one can openly account no doubt, however the reality is that civil servants are part of old boys networks and the only real accountability that politicians care about are votes at election time every 4 or 5 years. And even that process is locked down with most of the country's opinion safely with the mainstream established parties - a nuke would be needed to change it.

"transparency in public spending"
Public spending in most nations is quite transparent... Where people are on the make usually tends not to be so transparent...
So for instance bribes taken/given as in Saudi/BAE? As in political decision not to investigate when it was leaked? As in expenses? Quarter of a mill dinners with Dave? Consultancy roles with private corporates?

"public servants actually acting like public servants"
How else would they act?

"economies designed in a way that regardless of background, if you work hard, you can get to places"
The vast majority have their future determined by their socioeconomic origins-study after study finds this. The social mobility is as low as the feudal era on this one.

Remember the Muslim world is in a state of neocolonialisation - wealth being extracted hand over fist by elites and foreign powers - not a good benchmark

"relative economic and political freedom for Women"
Economic freedom or economic slavery? Genius of an idea to increase the labour supply, keep labour costs down and tell women you are suddenly an advocate for their rights - and it's a wonderful opportunity to work;

"but does not change the fact they don't have to depend on men for every thing"
The dependency has simply shifted from men to the state... Everyone is expected to be dependent on the state... all intermediary hierarchies are eliminated...

It is really sad to see how this country has gone downhill over the past 11 years or so. I remember while growing up, I really didn't face much trouble with regards to practising and discussing Islam compared to what some Muslims faced across the world, but it's a real shame and quite depressing as to where this country is now headed, especially with the new Counter Terrorism and Security Bill already at its third hearing.

Cameron talks about how the Muslim community needs to do to more to feel British and become a part Britain's social fabric, but the fact remains that he, alongside the coalition government are just completely out of touch with the mainstream Muslim community.

In a time of moral decadence drugs, prostitution, pedophilia, domestic violence and drunkenness (but to mention a few) are at an all-time high!
