I don't see myself as under any particular pressure from the West and I certainly don't see myself - or those who think like me - as inevitable victims of Enlightenment brainwashing

Inevitable? Naturally not.
Pressured and influenced? Most certainly yes.
Have a read of Professor Aronson's primer text on social psychology called "The Social Animal". It is one of the best books on the subject on the planet. In it he proves the point categorically - saves me having to do it!
