Hadith were written by some companions during the life of the Prophet (saw). The process grew after his death. Abu Huraira (ra) had at least nine students who wrote down Hadith from him. Ibn Umar (ra) had eight students who wrote down Hadith from him. Anas ibn Malik (ra) had 16 different students who wrote down Hadith from him. A’isha (ra) had three students at least who wrote down Hadith from her, including Urwah Ibn Abbas (ra) who had 9 students who had wrote down Hadith from him. Jabir bin Abdullah had at least 14 students who wrote down Hadith.
