How do Muslims address studies about people who claim memories of a previous life?

I suppose you could laugh at them. But it's not good to mistreat the disabled. You also get people who claim they are otherkin, aliens, and apache attack helicopters. Mental illness is a terrible thing, American psychologists keep themselves in a job by pandering and rationalising such fancies.
