While many Muslims celebrate the period of the Prophet Muhammed's birth with poetry, songs and readings about his life and teachings, this observance does not have the same significance as Christmas for Christians.

Similarly, Christians do not celebrate the births of the prior prophets mentioned in the New Testament. Muslims do commemorate the legacy of previous prophets by reading about their teachings and lives in the Qur'an and by saying, "peace be upon them" after their names.
